DIY Crayon Wreath
My big girls’ homework station has taken a beating this summer. It’s been a catchall for all their projects- exactly what it’s supposed to be when school is out- but with the new school year upon us, it was time for a refresh.
No space is complete without a bow!
One big garbage bag later, all the scraps were tossed, the drawers and peg boards organized, and surfaces wiped clean of leftover paint and glitter. Aside from a few stickers that may have been removed in the process, it’s still very much a kid-driven space. I think it’s important that their homework space really reflect them… Usually the things that make it up on their peg boards are things they’ve created or a picture from a friend that they want to keep. My oldest even hung a prayer card and a graded quiz up. I want them to have agency over how that space is put together because I want them to be inspired by their own work!

That said! I still exercise some decor authority in their space and picked a craft that was easy to put together (my dear friends I cleared this DIY start to finish in the span of one toddler nap!) and brings a lot of color and fun to an already neat space. This crayon wreath was cheap, too! Just a foam wreath mold, a couple of new boxes of crayons, and a glue gun is all that was necessary. You can absolutely use crayons that need a new lease on life but I preferred the look of a consistent set of crayons.
The wreath was so simple to put together and I finished it in a single nap time. My biggest piece of advice is to map out where you want your crayons before gluing them down. I started by arranging the larger crayons around the wreath mold first for symmetry. Glued those down, then moved to the smaller crayons. I used wayyyy more hot glue than expected but I’m so pleased with the result! Let me know if you try it too!
